“Welcome to the winter service task group.  Our aim is to enable effective and efficient delivery and improvement of winter service. Through healthy discussion and sharing of data, member authorities have delivered significant improvements in the resilience, quality, consistency  and value for money of gritting operations across the regions.

The group has developed comparison tools that promote continuous improvement in times when budgets are under increasing pressure. We have worked together to inform and interpret national best practice guidance and have developed pragmatic policy and guidance that is now integral to many of our winter service plans. We have investigated efficiencies through the joint procurement of forecasting services, route optimisation. We have also explored how to deliver effective community self-help in winter service and many members have succeeded in mobilising their communities when winter grips the land.

I hope you find this webpage useful and if you cannot find the answers that you seek here, then please drop us a line, or speak to your authority’s representative. You may have identified the next area for the group to consider and through participation and collaboration we aim to  further enhance this highly valued service.”
